Alaskan Wilderness and Dogs

Iditarod dog musher Karen Land and her sled dog Borage will be at the SCCC/ATS library on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at noon. Land and Borage have sledded through the wilds of Alaska while racing in the Iditarod.

If you're interested in finding out more about the Alaskan Wilderness or just what type of dog Borage is, come into the library and find out. We've got books on Alaska and books on dogs. So come in and have a peek.

Mushing into Liberal and the SCCC/ATS Library

The SCCC/ATS Library, in conjunction with the Liberal Memorial Library, is proud to present Iditarod dog musher Karen Land and her sled dog Borage.

The duo will be making their way to Liberal on Wednesday, Feb. 17. They will be at the SCCC/ATS Library at noon and the Liberal Memorial Library at 6:30 p.m.

Karen Land is a columnist, writer, oral historian, public speaker, outdoor adventurer, and Iditarod dog musher. Battle of the sexes

The SCCC/ATS library was the site for a Kansas Day-themed Trivial Pursuit contest on Tuesday night in what turned out to be a battle of the sexes.

The men started out strong but the women came battling back. But in the end, the men were victorious and were awarded with Braum's gift cards.

Celebrating Black History Month

The Seward County Community College/Area Technical School Library is proud to present the traveling exhibit Kansans of African Descent: Selected Portraits.

African Americans have played important roles in the history of Kansas. Well-known people who have called Kansas home are featured in this exhibit of historic and contemporary photographs.

Individuals such as Benjamin “Pap” Singleton who was instrumental in bringing many African American immigrants to Kansas; Julie Lee who ran a grocery business in Nicodemus in 1877, and Lynette Woodard, first woman member of the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters are featured in this exhibit.

The exhibit is open to the public through the entire month of February.

Kansans of African Descent: Selected Portraits was produced by the Kansas Historical Society and is being toured by the Kansas Interpretive Traveling Exhibit Service.
